Gerry Baptist - Artist Statement
Gerry Baptist - The Waste Makers
Mankind has always been greedy for more than is necessary for comfort. Our appetites have increased as our technology has developed. Recent economic events may change us from a nation of greed to a nation of need, but that will only be for a short while until stability is regained. Then we'll be back to our old ways, it is ingrained into our being, it’s what humans do.
My paintings and prints comment on the many contradictions of our society. Our insatiable desires, wastefulness and hunger for new experiences leave us little time to be still and to be.
It is not sustainable and implicates us all.
Supermarket Man won two prizes at the RE Annual Show 2008
The Three Graces decide that fat is fun won the John Purcell Prize at the Wrexham Print international 2008
